Sind \(f\) und \(g\) reelle quadratische Formen in \(x_1, \ldots \!, x_n\) und ist \(f > 0\) für alle reellen \((x_i) \neq (0)\), für die \(g = 0\) ist, dann gibt es eine reelle Zahl \(\lambda\), so daß \(f+\lambda g\) positiv definit ist.Dieser Satz, von Wichtigkeit für die Variationsrechnung der mehrfachen Integrale, ist übrigens schon von P.
