The early work of F. B. Jones. (English) Zbl 0954.54001

Aull, C. E. (ed.) et al., Handbook of the history of general topology. Volume 1. Dordrecht: Kluwer Academic Publishers. 85-96 (1997).
From the paper: After a very short curriculum vitae of Floyd Burton Jones the author appreciates his work begun in Texas in the thirties and forties and its surprising consequences. She divides it into three (rather overlapping) areas:
1. Abstract, set theoretic constructions, concerning mainly the normal Moore space problem;
2. Simple, beautiful facts, especially Jones’s construction of a discontinuous function with connected graph; and
3. Continua theory and homogeneity, especially Jones’s definition of aposyndesis and its use for the classification of continua.
