Zeldovich’s neutron star and the prediction of magnetic froth. (English) Zbl 0973.76097

Bierstone, Edward (ed.) et al., The Arnoldfest. Proceedings of a conference in honour of V. I. Arnold for his 60th birthday, Toronto, Canada, June 15-21, 1997. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society. Fields Inst. Commun. 24, 165-172 (1999).
The author presents an analytical treatment of a frothy residue of an initially symmetrical magnetic field \(\vec B\). The nature of the frothy residue, when observed, could give hints on the correctness of the hypotheses due to Zeldowich, that the neutron star would support a rotationally symmetric \(\vec B_0=(y, -x,0)\) magnetic field, when modeled as the unit ball in \(\mathbb{R}^3\).
