We have published Volume 5 (2010), issues 1–6, of the Journal of
Mechanics of Materials and Solids (JOMMS).
The next issue of JOMMS will be a Special Issue in honor of Charles
Steele and the memory of Marie-Louise Steele. As you may know, Charles
and Marie-Louise had been for many years the guiding force behind a
highly regarded journal in mechanics, published by a commercial
publisher. In 2005, together with most of the editorial board of that
journal, they resigned as a consequence of excessive price increases.
They founded JOMMS, which has maintained the same quality of
publication at a fraction of the cost, being produced by a nonprofit
corporation, Mathematical Sciences Publishers.
Due to the large number of papers submitted and ultimately selected
for this special issue, its publication has been delayed. It will come
out as the first issue of Volume 6 (2011), and will have almost four
times the number of pages of a regular issue of JOMMS.
Thus, Volume 5 (2010) of JOMMS will consist only of the 6 issues
published so far, and Volume 6 (2011) will be longer than usual.
Naturally, all JOMMS subscribers for 2010 will receive the Steele
Special Issue, and thus will have the same number of pages as if
Volume 5 had been published according to the original schedule.
