Abstract

Let
be an immersed horizontal
surface in a
–dimensional
graph manifold. We show that the fundamental group of the surface
is quadratically distorted whenever the surface is virtually embedded (ie
separable) and is exponentially distorted when the surface is not virtually
embedded.
