Nonlinear oscillations in dielectric viscoelastomer generators

Abstract

Dielectric elastomer generators (DEGs) are devices that harvest energy from oscillations. We investigate the dynamic behavior of dielectric viscoelastomers in soft generators. Using a viscohyperelastic theoretical model to characterize the relaxation phenomena of the materials, the effects of various factors on the forced oscillation of the system are revealed. According to different failure modes, a three-dimensional presentation of the allowable domain in the electrical boundary condition, the amplitude of the oscillator, and the prestretch of the system are also depicted. Finally, an optimal design of DEGs is suggested combined with an energy dissipation analysis.
