Dislocation gliding in a coated buried layer submitted to misfit stress

Abstract

The introduction of an edge dislocation gliding into the interfaces of a thin layer embedded in a semi-infinite matrix of the same elastic constants and submitted to misfit stress has been investigated from a Peach–Koehler force analysis. Assuming the two-phase structure is coated with a third solid of different elastic constants, the unstable equilibrium positions and the stable equilibrium positions of the edge dislocation have been characterized into the layer-matrix interfaces versus the misfit stress, the ratio of the shear moduli and the coating thickness.
