Sloshing frequencies in a half-space by Kelvin inversion

B. Andreas Troesch

Vol. 47 (1973), No. 2, 539–552
Abstract

The frequencies of the free oscillations of an incompressible and inviscid fluid in a half-space with circular and strip-like aperture are determined by first mapping the half-space into a bounded domain by the Kelvin inversion. Upper bounds for the eigenfrequencies are then obtained by a Rayleigh-Ritz procedure. The results compare quite well with previous results, which were obtained by less elementary tools.
