Abstract

A PL homotopy complex projective 4-space with integral splitting invariant σ₂ is smoothable if and only if σ₂ ≡ 0 or 6 (mod 14). A smooth homotopy complex projective 4-space with σ₂≠0 does not admit a smooth Z₃ action with a codimension 2 fixed submanifold.
