A Riesz theory in von Neumann algebras

Anton Ströh and Johan Swart

Vol. 148 (1991), No. 1, 169–180
Abstract

An operator T is called a Riesz operator relative to a von Neumann algebra 𝒜 if T λI is Fredholm relative to 𝒜 for each λ0. Properties of Riesz operators are studied and a geometrical characterization of these operators are given. This characterization is used to show that a Riesz type of decomposition holds.
