The international School and
Conference in Algebraic Topology took place in the
Great Hall of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi
August 9-20, 2004. This was an event to celebrate the
60th birthday of our colleague and friend Professor
Huỳnh Mùi.
The Organizing Scientific
Committee was formed by John Hubbuck (Univ. of
Aberdeen, Aberdeen), Nguyễn H V Hưng
(Vietnam National Univ., Hanoi), Haynes Miller (MIT,

Stewart Priddy (Northwestern Univ., Evanston) and
Lionel Schwartz (Univ. de Paris 13, Paris).
We are grateful to the Vietnam
National University, Hanoi, the Department of
Mathematics, VNU, the Vietnam Science Foundation, as
well as the National Science Foundation (USA) for
their generous support of the international School
and Conference in Algebraic Topology, Hanoi 2004.
The school took place from August
9 to August 14, 2004. There were three courses in the
school, each contained six one-hour lectures, given
respectively by J Hubbuck, H Miller, and S
Priddy.
The conference took place from
August 16 to August 20, 2004. Its main topics were
the Steenrod algebra, invariant theory, classifying
spaces, and group cohomology. Titles of the talks
delivered at the conference as well as a list of
participants are included below.
The present Proceedings is a
collection of articles in honor of Huỳnh
Mùi. It contains transcripts of some of the
school courses and the conference talks as well as
related articles presented specifically for the
Proceedings. Each article has been undergone a strict
refereeing process. The proceedings is the intention
of all participants and contributors to honor
Huỳnh Mùi, the founder of the Vietnam
school in Algebraic Topology.
