Experimental investigation for the existence of frequency band gap in a microstructure model

Abstract

This paper aims at investigating experimentally the existence of the frequency band gap in microstructural materials containing a density of resonators. This model belongs to metamaterials which show interesting properties. In particular, the property whose study is the objective of this paper is the capacity of eliminating the vibration amplitude in a specific frequency range, which is called the frequency band gap. To achieve this goal a microstructure model was built using a 3D printer, then it was tested using a shaking table device. The experimental setup and results are obtained. Results discussion and conclusions are offered. They show clearly the interesting existence of the frequency band gap in such microstructure models.
