About submissions dealing with
important open problems

Any pa­per provid­ing a proof of a fam­ous con­jec­ture, the solu­tion of a fam­ous prob­lem in num­ber the­ory or a re­proof of Fer­mat’s Last The­or­em must be ac­com­pan­ied by a let­ter signed by a per­son who

  • is not one of the au­thors, and
  • is on the math­em­at­ics fac­ulty of a re­search uni­versity.

The let­ter must be prin­ted on the let­ter­head of that uni­versity and state that the sign­er has read the pa­per and cer­ti­fies that it is cor­rect.
