Journal Subscriptions
We are a scholar-led nonprofit publisher. Without shareholders to pay or a society to fund, every dollar that MSP earns is kept invested in our mission: to serve the math community through high-quality publishing at low prices, and help others do the same. Every page we publish is a page controlled by the math community, not a large commercial interest.

Five journals adopt Subscribe to Open NEW
We are excited to have found an open-access model that is equitable and makes sense for mathematics. Starting with 2023, we are adopting the Subscribe to Open model for these journals:
- Geometry & Topology,
- Algebraic & Geometric Topology,
- Algebra & Number Theory,
- Analysis & PDE, and
- Pacific Journal of Mathematics.
Each year, if enough subscribers continue to support the journal, that year’s articles will be published open access — free to read by everyone and with no author charges. Read more about it here.
Price Tiers
Starting with 2022, mindful of the hardships still faced by many institutions, MSP has implemented tiered pricing for its journal subscriptions. Institutions who are not in Carnegie group R1 (institutions of very high research activity) or who have a Shanghai rank below 500 will be offered a lower price. See here for a complete description and an explanation.
Free access for HBCUs
In pursuit of our mission, starting with the 2021 season we offer free electronic subscriptions to MSP-owned journals for accredited Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the United States.
Free access in developing countries through EIFL
MSP signed a new agreement with EIFL that provides free access to MSP’s journals, open to libraries in these 29 countries: Albania, Armenia, Congo (Democratic Republic), Ethiopia, Fiji, Georgia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lesotho, Malawi, Maldives, Moldova, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, North Macedonia, Palestine, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania, Ukraine, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Interested libraries should complete the licence acceptance form which they can obtain from the EIFL Licensing Coordinator in their country. Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL) is a not-for-profit organization that works with libraries to enable access to knowledge in developing and transition economy countries in Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe and Latin America.
The MSP Package
This package combines electronic access to these journals:
- Algebra & Number Theory
- Algebraic & Geometric Topology
- Analysis & PDE
- Annals of K-Theory
- Communications in Applied Math. and Computational Science
- Geometry & Topology
- Innovations in Incidence Geometry
- Involve
- Moscow Journal of Combinatorics and Number Theory

Note: Not all our journals are part of the package. For example, the Pacific Journal of Mathematics and the Journal of Mechanics of Materials and Structures are not in the package. Probability and Mathematical Physics and Algebraic Statistics will be free to read in 2021 and 2022. Click here to see the complete list of our journals.
Note: We are offering a deeply discounted price for subscribers from countries of lower-middle and low income (as classified by the World Bank), and free access to subscribers from certain developing countries (via EIFL) and for historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the United States

The Fine Print
Electronic access to past issues of a journal is included with every subscription to that journal, as long as a subscription is maintained. Perpetual access is available through the Global LOCKSS Network.
Subscribers are asked to sign MSP’s Electronic Journal License Agreement upon initiating their subscription. After it is initially signed, the EJLA will remain in effect as long as subscription fees are paid for at least one journal, unless terminated in the manner provided in the EJLA. In other words, a subscriber may need to sign the EJLA only once, as long as a subscription is maintained from year to year.
We do not offer print-only subscriptions, only electronic and electronic+print. Subscriptions are offered for the calendar year only. Electronic access allowed based on submitted IP-address range. Separate campuses of an institution that are not within the same city or geographically close must be covered by separate subscriptions, or might be eligible for consortium pricing, at MSP’s discretion.
All articles published by MSP become free to access and read after six years past publication (meaning on the sixth January 1st after the publication date). The Journal of Software for Algebra and Geometry is immediately free to read. None of our journals charge any author fees.
